The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expressed condolences over the passing of former Black Stars striker Raphael Dwamena, who collapsed during a league match in Albania and could not be revived.
In an official statement, the GFA paid tribute to Dwamena, recognizing him as a dedicated player who wholeheartedly represented Ghana. The statement conveyed sympathy to Dwamena's family and acknowledged his contributions to the national team.
"Our thoughts are with the family of Raphael Dwamena at this difficult time. Raphael represented Ghana wholeheartedly and paid his dues to the country until his unfortunate passing. We will forever miss him for his dedication to the National Coarse," the GFA statement read.
Despite Dwamena's challenges with heart problems, which led to the installation of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), he continued his professional career, playing for clubs in Austria, Switzerland, and Spain. His death has deeply saddened the football community, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fellow players and officials.
Dwamena's international journey began in 2017, marked by a memorable debut in an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia, where he scored a brace. Throughout his national team career, he amassed two goals in nine appearances.
