Asante Kotoko are very close to extending the contract of goalkeeper and captain Frederick Asare, rubbishing initial claims that he is on the verge of leaving at the end of the season
The 25-year-old joined the Porcupine Warriors on a free transfer in 2022 and made an instant impact right on arrival and has been the first-choice in goal since last season
However, it has been very difficult for him this season and is facing a very tougher and stiffer opposition from Guinean goalie Mohammed Camara despite playing the most games
Having watched on from the bench in their last three matches, rumours has started rumbling that the Black Stars goalkeeper isn't happy in Kumasi and is contemplating on seeking a new challenge elsewhere
However, Asante Kotoko spokesperson Samuel Sarfo Duku has denied those stories by confirming they are in advanced negotiations with the former Accra Lions shot-stopper to extend his stay with them
"Frederick Asare and Asante Kotoko have both agreed in principle to a contract renewal, and we will soon finalize all documents. The player, along with Samba, is really willing to continue playing for the club", he said on Akoma FM in Kumasi
Asante Kotoko still have their double-winning ambition on course as they are currently in the FA Cup final and still in the title race in the league
