Berekum Chelsea captain Zakaria Fuseini has penned a heartfelt farewell message to the club as he prepares to join Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The 27-year-old centre-back, regarded as one of the most experienced defenders in the Ghana Premier League, is set to sign a three-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors in the coming days.
Fuseini has been a mainstay in the domestic league since making his top-flight debut in 2014 and has grown into a commanding figure at the heart of Berekum Chelsea’s defence. Now, after over a decade of loyal service, he is set for a new challenge with the record Premier League champions.
Taking to social media, the former captain expressed deep gratitude to Berekum Chelsea for their role in shaping his career.
“Every story that has a beginning definitely has an end. Here comes the end of our story on the field, but our story off the field goes on till eternity,” he wrote.
“Having arrived here as a young boy, you took me in as one of your own and nurtured me into the man I am today. From that young boy to becoming the captain of this great club—this is something I will forever cherish and be grateful for.”
Fuseini went on to thank the club’s leadership, coaches, teammates, and supporters for their unwavering support throughout his time at Berekum Chelsea.
“Today, I deem it a great honour and with a heart full of gratitude to say thank you to each of you for the roles you’ve played in my footballing journey—from the President, Chairman, and Board Members, to the amazing coaches and teammates I’ve worked with.
“To the wonderful people of Berekum and all the amazing supporters of Berekum Chelsea FC, words aren’t enough to express my appreciation. Thank you, and may Allah bless us all. This is not goodbye but the beginning of a new chapter in my football career.”
Asante Kotoko are expected to officially announce Fuseini’s signing in the coming days as they continue to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.
