Japan finish as winners of Group E after edging out Spain by 2-1 in their final group game at the Khalifa International Stadium in the capital, Doha.

The Red Fury started really well and dominated possession and also created so many chances but couldn't make it count.

Japan came so close to scoring after Takefuso Kubo's cross located Ao Tanaka in the box but his strike was blocked hugely by the opposition backline.

However, Spain finally jumped into the lead on the 12th minute through Alvaro Morata who connected into the net from Ceser Azplicueta's cross.

Another opportunity to double their lead after Gavi played Morata through with a decent pass but the former's follow up effort was gathered by Shuichi Gonda.

Back from recess, the Blue Samurai returned on a blistering note to equalize after just four minutes from the break.

Junya Ito pressed up the left flanks to dispossess Alejandro Balde and subsequently sets up Ritsu Doan for the leveller on the 49th minute.

Just two minutes after getting on level, Japan scored again through Ao Tanaka to jump in front for the first time in the game after Kaoru Mitoma had done a great job to keep the ball on the pitch.

Spain piling so much pressure on Japan in search for the equalizer, having sent series of crosses into the box but were all checked by their backline.

Danny Olmo came so close to getting the leveller after combining beautifully with Ferran Torres but his effort was saved comfortably by Shuichi Gonda.

It ended 2-1 after full time. Both Japan and Spain are through from Group E after Germany defeated Costs Rica by 2-3 in the other game.
