The Albiceleste came into the game with a flat five back system creating the impression that they are in to defend but were the dominant side in the opening minutes.

Argentina finally opened the scoring account on the 35th minute through right back Nahuel Mollina- who scored with a close range finish after collecting a beautiful pass from Lionel Messi. It ended 1-0 at half time.
In the second half, the South Americans returned on a blistering note, having gotten a continuous free kick and a corner kick but couldn't make it count.
The Netherlands looked not potent enough in attack despite trailing, and were only concerned with the exchange of passes with no any dangerous incursion.
Lionel Messi came so close to doubling Argentina's lead but his free kick on the 61st minute missed the target by few inches.
Few moments later, Argentina were awarded a penalty after Marcus Acuna was brought down by Denzel Dumfries in the box. Lionel Messi made no mistake this time and converted calmly to double their lead.
The Oranges finally pulled one back on the 82nd minute after substitute Wout Weghorst connected into the with a towering header from Steven Berghuis.
Just two minutes after, Wout Weghorst once again came so close to getting the equalizer but his strike went side netting. That was close!
Weghorst finally sealed the brace and get Holland back on level after striking from a very close range, having collected a beautiful assist from Teun Koopmeiners.
There was no goal again after extra time. Argentina won 4-3 on penalties.
