Former Chelsea centre back Ricardo Calvalho has backed compatriot Jose Mourinho to suceed at Manchester United with the Portuguese named to take over the mantle from Luis Van Gaal.
The former Real Madrid player stresded that United is in safe hands.
Speaking to the Sun, Carvalho said: “Jose will have something to prove after what happened at Chelsea.
He is a coach who always wants to improve and wants to do more and better. “I think he will make Manchester United better and in the next two years, they will be champions. United have struggled since [Sir Alex] Ferguson retired but Jose can be the one to replace him. He will not worry what went before.
He will want to make his own success. “He is a great coach and now he is in a great club – United are one of the biggest in the world. I have no doubt that he can bring trophies back to United again and that he will make them champions.
I don’t know if it will be in the first year, the second year or the third, but Mourinho will win the title again. My prediction is that it will be in the second year.”
However, at the same time, the former Portuguese defender revealed that he never wanted the Special One to take up this job. “I played for Chelsea and still have pride in the club, so I didn’t want to see Jose at United. No one at Chelsea did.
He is our Special One and I’m sure he will always have pride in Chelsea. But, of course, he is a professional coach and has to go to work.” Jose Mourinho, was appointed following the departure of Luis Van Gaal.
