Federation International Football Association (FIFA) have congratulated Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan who just announced his retirement from professional football for an enviable career and wished him well in his next endeavor.
The legendary Ghanaian striker announced his retirement from professional football at the 30th annual meeting of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in Accra. He said;
"Mr. President, Ministers of State, members of the board, fellow Speakers, nananom, niim3, naam3, I want to take this great opportunity, a stage that is difficult in every footballer's career, a moment all footballers do not wish, but when nature dawns, that thin voice will keep echoing into the ears ... IT IS TIME ... that voice has been clear in my ears, and I have succumbed to it, IT IS TIME."
“IT IS TIME TO HANG THE JERSEY AND BOOTS IN GLORY as I retire officially from active football, ... but then again, I am minded by views shared by great businesses men and sporting gurus, "YOU DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LOVE", he added
Right after the tweet, Gyan got a quick engagement from FIFA who will always have him in their history books. They commented; "Congratulations on a fantastic career, @ASAMOAH_GYAN3…Wishing you all the best for your next chapter."
He enjoyed an 18-year club career, from playing for Liberty Professionals in 2003 to a brief stint at Legon Cities in 2021.
Gyan made his mark on the international stage with notable appearances in the FIFA World Cups of 2006, 2010, and 2014.
He etched his name in history as the top African goal scorer in World Cup tournaments, having netted an impressive tally of six goals.
The 37-year-old retires as Ghana’s all-top scorer with 51 goals in 109 matches.
