Former Ghana international, Michael Essien has commended former teammate, Karim Benzema for deservedly winning the 2022 Ballon D'or award.
The event organized by the French Football Magazine annually, is seen as the most prestigious individual accolade in football and was held at the Theater du Chatelet in Paris last Monday evening.
There were no debates and hullabaloos after ex- French national team captain Zinedine Zidane announced the Real Madrid marksman as the best footballer in the world- following his stellar display having netted massive 44 goals to propel his side clinch both the Laliga and UEFA Champions League in the 2021/22 season.
With this, Michael Essien- who played for Chelsea, Real Madrid and others in his career took to Twitter to congratulate the French man for winning the Ballon D'or for the first time.

The two played together as teammates at the Santiago Bernabeu in the 2012/13 season under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho.
The ex- Black Stars midfielder is currently working as the assistant coach of Danish giants FC Nordsjaelland.
