Moise Kean is a major doubt for Italy’s Nations League fixture against Turkiye after missing training because of a knock sustained during the draw with France.
The match will be played at Bologna’s Stadio Dall’Ara on Monday, kicking off at 19.45 UK time (20.45 CEST).
Italy are looking to continue the progress shown in their previous two matches, having beaten France 4-1 in Bursa before drawing 1-1 away to France.
Kean started the game in Paris in a front three alongside brothers Sebastiano Esposito and Pio Esposito. However, the Como forward had already been carrying an injury concern before the match.
Sky Sport Italia reports that 26-year-old suffered another knock during the game and was still absent from the squad’s training session on Monday afternoon.
His lack of involvement raises the possibility that he will be left out altogether for Italy’s final fixture of this extended international break. If he is included, he may have to settle for a place among the substitutes.
The Esposito brothers have started both of Italy’s last two matches, making it possible that one or both will be rested against the bottom side in Nations League Group A.
Antonio Vergara made his senior international debut in Paris and is among those pushing for an opportunity in Bologna. Samuele Inacio is also competing for a chance, although he has yet to earn a place on the bench for the senior side.
Italy’s recent results have provided encouragement, but Kean’s fitness issue means manager Antonio has a decision to make in attack before the final game of the group campaign. With the forward unable to train alongside his team-mates, his availability is likely to remain uncertain until the match.
