Athletico Bilbao winger, Nico Williams has opened up on how he received the call up to the Spanish national team and how excited the entire family was.
The 20 year old had the opportunity to play for Ghana but ended up choosing Spain, where he is hoping to establish himself as a mainstay and also make it to the World Cup.
The mercurial wideman has been outstanding and also started the 2022/23 football season on a higher note and is involved in three goals in six Laliga appearances.
Manager Luis Enrique introduced him on the 63rd minute to debut for the La Roja in their 2-1 loss to Switzerland in the Uefa Nations League.
Reacting to his long awaited debut, Nico, 20, has deliberated on how he finally found out he was included in the Spain squad for their recent friendly. He said.
"I was calm on the sofa at home like one more day than we have free at Athletic and many congratulatory messages began to arrive on my mobile, I didn’t understand why, I got into sefutbol out of curiosity and it appeared on the list … I couldn’t believe it, I started screaming at home, my mother came to hug me, to cry like my father. I am very happy to be here."
"Above all, it has given me confidence, that I am not afraid to fail. He is a very close person who if he has to tell you something he says it to your face. He is a coach who is going to help me change and improve my game. I want to learn the most from him and the team." He concluded
