Uruguay coach Diego Alonso has announced his final 26-man squad list for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Edinson Cavani has overcome an injury scare to be included in Uruguay’s 26-man World Cup squad.

The veteran forward will play at his fourth World Cup after overcoming an ankle injury suffered against Barcelona on October 29.

Cavani, 35, had been in good form this season since he signed for Valencia after his release by Manchester United, scoring four times in seven outings.

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, Real Madrid’s Fede Valverde and Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur are also included in Diego Alonso’s squad, demonstrating the South American nation’s attacking prowess.

Uruguay have been drawn in Group H at this year’s tournament and will face Portugal, Ghana and South Korea.

They will play Ghana for the first time since their infamous quarter-final in 2010, which saw Luis Suarez sent off for a handball on the line that prevented Uruguay from being knocked out.

Asamoah Gyan missed the resulting penalty and Ghana lost the penalty shootout which followed. Players like Edinson Cavani, Luiz Suarez is remarkably still part of the Uruguay squad 12 years later.
