Namibia bagged their first ever win at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a well deserved late goal from Deon Hotto as they secured a 1-0 win over Tunisia in Korhogo on Tuesday evening.

The opening stages of the match was keenly contested as both sides dished out good chances. Tunisia threatened the Namibia goal as Taha Yassine Khenissi but his daunting header was parried away by Loydt Kazapua. Namibia also came close through danger-man Shalulile but he clipped off his effort right in the Carthage Eagles box.

After recess it was the Brave Warriors who took charge of proceedings with their high intensity runs, clear-cut opportunities and ever unflinching passion on the field of play as they kept threatening the Tunisia goal.

Tunisia captain Youssef Msakni came really close with a near-post header which was punched over the bar by Kazapua. Not-getting-weary Namibia came close to break the virginity of the game again but Shalulile’s goal bound effort was diverted over the bar by Montassar Talbi.

The match was getting tantalizing into the final half-hour as Tunisia’s Msakni Achouri spurned good chances, as those missed proved costly as two minutes remaining the Brave Warriors lad Bethuel Muzeu delivered a good cross which Deon Hotto made no mistake as he headed home to secure an historic win for Namibia.

The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia will be desperate in search of a win as they will come up against Mali on Saturday.
