Ghana clinch gold in women football of the ongoing 2023 African Games after coming from behind to beat Nigeria 2-1 in an epic final at the Cape Coast Stadium.
It was a very good start for the two countries who took the game at each other in search of the opener with some incursions made but all proved futile.
The Falconets came so close to scoring in just nine minutes from kickoff but a great save from goalkeeper Afi Amenyeku saved the situation.
Fourteen minutes later after making that save, Afi unfortunately gave away the Nigerians a cheap goal which was smashed into the net by Edeh Loveth to snatch the lead.
Subsequently, in a quest to get the equalizer, Abdulai Mukarama did so well to run through the opposition backline and set up Tracey Twum at a very close range but she missed the target completely. What a miss it was!
The Princesses had a free kick on the right, a good delivery from Comfort Yeboah fell on Abdulai Mukarama but she headed across the face of goal for a goal-kick.
In the second half, Yussif Basigi's girls returned on an explosive note in search of the leveller and attacked with so much intent and purpose.
Ghana was given a free kick and Mafia Nyame elected herself for the kick but her effort resulted in side net.
The Black Princesses finally got themselves back on level terms after 78 minutes thanks to a fantastic strike from Tracey Twum.
It ended 1-1 after full time and the game went into extra time.
Eight minutes into the extra time, Abdulai Mukarama sent a strong hit from the edge of the box to the bottom corner to make it 2-1 and to put Ghana in front for the first time in the game.
There was no goal produced in the second extra as Ghana finished as winners of 2023 African Games women football.
