Jerry Afriyie's late goal was enough for the Black Satellites to grind an important 1-0 victory over Uganda at the Ohene Gyan Stadium on Friday night to emerge champions of the 2023 African Games.

Coach Desmond Offei made only two changes from the semi final game, with Emmanuel Agyei retiring into the starting line up alongside Mahmoud Mohaison to replace David Amuzu and Musibau Aziz.

The Satellites started on a blistering note and dominated every aspect of the game right from the blast of the referee's whistle.

The Ugandans looked completely off and were always packed in defence watching their hosts have a large share of possession.

In the second half, both teams bounced back stronger and continued with the same momentum but were still struggling to unlock the hosts backline.

Satellites with a great team build up on the 59th minute, fell on the path of Jerry Afriyie who went in for a drive from outside the box but went wide for a goal-kick.

Four minutes later, Ghana were given a free kick and Abdul Hakim Suleman sent a very strong hit but was parried away to a wasted corner kick.

Ghana finally scored in the dying embers of the game to steal it late, kind courtesy Jerry Afriyie- who's netted his third goal in the competition. What a time to score.

It finished 1-0 after full time for Ghana who have won gold in men football of the ongoing 2023 African Games.
