Black Stars head coach Otto Addo expressed his deep disappointment following Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Niger in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
After conceding a late equalizer, Addo reflected on the team's recurring defensive issues, having also conceded a "cheap goal" in their previous match against Angola.
"We had a quite cheap goal against Angola and now again, I am just really, really disappointed and we have to be on our toes to defend these situations better. I don't know what to say more because I am really, really disappointed"
Despite preparing for such moments in training, Addo lamented the team's failure to execute during the game. "We talked too much, we trained exactly in this kind of situation also and I am really disappointed to see the team concede a goal like this"
Ghana initially took the lead through a goal by Alidu Seidu but allowed Niger to score a late equalizer through Oumar Sako.
The draw leaves the Black Stars winless after two games in the qualifiers, increasing the pressure on the team as they aim to secure their spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
With key games ahead, the Black Stars must regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities to keep their AFCON hopes alive.
