Los Angeles Galaxy winger Joseph Paintsil has withdrawn from Ghana's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger in Morocco.

Paintsil failed to travel with the team to Morocco due to passport issues and will now miss the crucial game against Niger slated for Monday.

He was left out of the squad to sort out his passport situation before returning to California for the Major League Soccer with Los Angeles Galaxy.

A statement from the Ghana FA confirming Paintsil's exclusion reads: "Twenty three players made the trip after Joseph Painstil pulled out due to Passport issues. The Los Angeles Galaxy forward has been left in Accra to sort out his passport issues before returning to the United States to join his club,".

Painstil came on late in the 1-0 defeat to Angola in Kumasi last Thursday, his first game for the Black Stars since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Black Stars will be hoping to recover from the defeat Angola when they face the Menas of Niger in the second round of the AFCON Qualifiers at the RS Berkane Stadkium on Monday.
