Ghana’s national team technical advisor and GFA Director of Football, Winfried Schäfer, has pointed out a major weakness in the Black Satellites squad ahead of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations— the lack of a clinical striker.

Schäfer’s concerns come after Ghana’s U-20 side played a goalless draw against Hearts of Oak in a recent friendly. Assessing the team’s performance, he stressed the need for a reliable number nine who can finish attacking moves.

“The match was good, but in the first half, nobody took a shot at goal… 70% contact, but no final pass. We need a strong number nine—someone who can keep the ball and attack crosses,” Schäfer said.

Ghana's Black Satellites have been drawn into Group A of the U-20 AFCON, where they will face hosts Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Tanzania, and a yet-to-be-confirmed Central African team.

Schäfer also shared his thoughts on Ghana’s senior national team, discussing their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
