Head coach of the Black Queens of Ghana, Kim Lars Bjorkegren has heaped praises on his girls for their performance after the emphatic win over Egypt in the final qualifying round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Queens despite a struggling start managed to find their grounds subsequently and thrashed the Cleopatras by an emphatic 0-3 in the first leg last Thursday evening in Ismailia.

Doris Boaduwaa opened the scoring account with a brilliant finish after receiving a descent long pass from Jennifer Cudjoe in the dying embers of the first half.

Two second half goals subsequently from substitute Mary Amponsah and Grace Asantewaa were enough to wrap up the win for Ghana and boost their qualification chances.

In a post-match interview, the Swedish tactician expressed elation even though he admitted they struggled a bit at the beginning but did a great game in general and described the win as an amazing one.

“You can see that we haven’t been together for a while. It doesn’t connect like it did a couple of months ago. But the energy was there, I believe that we did a lot of good things, and in the end, we did well.

“In the end, a difficult away game we won 3-0. The result is amazing. It’s put us in a good position to make sure that we make the next AFCON,” Kim Lars Bjorkegren said.

The return encounter is slated for Tuesday, October 28, at the Ohene Gyan Stadium in Accra, with the winner of this tie punching their ticket to the 2026 WAFCON which will be held again in Morocco early next year.
