Egypt will have to wait to confirm their place at the 2026 World Cup after being held to a 0-0 draw by Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on Tuesday night.

The Pharaohs dished out good football but couldn’t find a way through. Omar Marmoush limped off early, Mohamed Salah saw a strike ruled out for offside, and Mostafa Mohamed missed late as frustration mounted.

Burkina Faso, captained by Bertrand Traoré, stood firm and even finished the stronger, threatening to snatch victory but lacking the killer touch.

With two rounds of games left, Egypt remain in pole position but qualification is not yet secured.

Elsewhere in Group B, Senegal staged a dramatic turnaround in Kinshasa to leapfrog DR Congo at the summit. The Leopards stormed into a two-goal lead through Cédric Bakambu and Yoane Wissa after an Édouard Mendy mistake, before Aliou Cissé’s men roared back in style.
