Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has declared that the Porcupine Warriors’ ultimate goal in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup is to secure a place in the group stage.
The Kumasi-based giants are returning to continental football for the first time since 2022, after clinching last season’s Ghana FA Cup title.
Kotoko will host Nigerian side Kwara United in the first leg of the preliminary round tie between September 19 and 21, before traveling for the reverse fixture from September 26 to 28.
Zito, who took charge of the team midway through last season, emphasized that failure to reach the group stage would be a huge disappointment.
“We know we are going to play Kwara United, and the bottom line, the target is to qualify for the group stage. I will be very disappointed if we don’t make it,” he told Akoma FM.
Should Kotoko advance past Kwara United, they will face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the second preliminary round. The first leg is scheduled between October 17 and 19, with the return fixture to be played from October 24 to 26.
Kotoko will be looking to make a significant mark on the competition as they bid to restore their status on the African stage.
