Mali endured a frustrating evening as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Central African Republic (CAR) in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Stade El Arbi Zaouli on Monday night.

The Eagles dominated possession early on, pushing CAR deep into their half. Their first real opportunity came in the 12th minute when Yves Bissouma fired a free-kick at goal, but the wall deflected the effort, keeping the score level.

Mali continued to control proceedings, looking to break through CAR’s defensive setup. The opposition relied on quick transitions and counter-attacks but failed to trouble Mali's backline.

As half-time approached, Nene Dorgeles came close to breaking the deadlock, pouncing on a loose ball in the box. However, his half-volley sailed over the bar, leaving Mali frustrated heading into the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Mali dominating possession but struggling to breach CAR’s compact defense. Another free-kick opportunity just outside the box went to waste, adding to Mali’s growing frustration.

In the final stages, Mali threw everything forward, keeping CAR pinned back and forcing them into last-ditch defending. However, Les Fauves remained resolute, ensuring Mali left Casablanca with just a point.

The result leaves Mali still chasing crucial points in Group I as the race for World Cup qualification intensifies.
