Angola head coach Pedro Goncalves has expressed his disappointment over the condition of the Baba Yara Stadium pitch following his team’s narrow 1-0 victory against Ghana in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Goncalves, whose team struggled along with Ghana to adapt to the poor playing surface, voiced his concerns after the match, stating, “A country like Ghana deserves a better pitch.”
The state of the pitch has been a point of contention, drawing criticism from fans, players, and now the visiting coach, who believes it hampered both teams’ performances.
The match, which saw Ghana dominate possession, ended in frustration for the Black Stars. A late error by Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin allowed Angola to snatch a last-minute winner, leaving Ghana with a tough road ahead in their AFCON qualifying campaign.
Angola will now prepare for their next qualifier against Sudan, who secured a win over Niger, while Ghana will look to bounce back in their upcoming clash against Niger.
