Several of Africa’s football powerhouses, including Egypt and Morocco, have already booked their places in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as qualifying matches conclude and preparations ramp up for the continent's premier football tournament.
As the international break comes to an end and the AFCON qualifiers near their final stages, some of Africa’s biggest footballing nations have confirmed their participation in next year's tournament.
While a few teams are still on the verge of qualification, others will wait until the final matchday to determine if they will join the continental showdown.
Who Has Qualified?
Egypt
The Pharaohs became the latest team to qualify for the 2025 AFCON after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Mauritania on October 15 at the Stade de la Capitale. With the win, Egypt solidified their place at the top of Group C, which also includes Cape Verde and Botswana. They remain unbeaten, with 12 points from four matches.
Morocco
Joining Egypt are their North African neighbors, Morocco, who secured their spot in next year’s tournament with a commanding 4-0 win over the Central African Republic at the Honneur Stadium. Morocco has been dominant in Group B, winning all four of their matches and sitting comfortably with 12 points.
Senegal
Senegal also qualified for the 2025 AFCON, following a 1-0 victory over Malawi on October 15. A late winner from Sadio Mane at the Bingu National Stadium moved the Teranga Lions to 10 points in Group L, where they are tied with Burkina Faso. Both teams have now secured their places in Morocco.
Cameroon
The Indomitable Lions confirmed their place in the tournament after a 1-0 win against Kenya at the Mandela National Stadium on October 14. A 60th-minute goal from Boris Enow ensured Cameroon’s 21st appearance at the AFCON, as they top Group J with 10 points.
Angola
Angola is another team that has booked their ticket to Morocco after edging out Niger 1-0 in Group F action. Angola has maintained a perfect record with four wins from four matches and sits at the top of the group with 12 points, followed by Sudan with 7 points.
Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso is also through to the 2025 AFCON, alongside Senegal in Group L. They sit atop the group standings with 10 points, thanks to three wins and a draw.
Algeria
Algeria, as the host nation, had already secured their place in the tournament but have continued to dominate their group with four consecutive wins. They lead Group B with 12 points, well ahead of second-placed Gabon, who have 7 points.
With several teams having already qualified, the remaining spots for the 2025 AFCON will be fiercely contested as the final matchdays approach, ensuring thrilling action for football fans across the continent.
