Ex-defender of the Black Stars, Dan Quaye, says he was not surprised Ghana lost to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

On Tuesday afternoon, Ghana were subdued 2-0 by Sudan at the Martyrs February Stadium in Benghazi, Libya.

A disastrous campaign for Ghana took another turn for the worse soon after half-time as Sudan notched twice within three minutes through Ahmed Mohamed and Abdelrahman.

There was no comeback from the Black Stars, captained by West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus, and are now likely to miss the finals for the first time since 2004.

Sudan need one point from November fixtures against Niger (away) and Angola (home) to be certain of qualifying, and eliminate Ghana.

However, speaking to Koforidua based Bryt FM, Dan Quaye, an ex-defender of Hearts of Oak stated he wasn't surprised as he went ahead to question the commitment and the mentality of the players.

“I’m not surprised with the defeat. The performance they exhibited at the Accra Sports Stadium isn’t the same performance shown in Libya. I realized things were going to be tough for Ghana from the blast of the whistle because the players didn’t show any sign of commitment and winning mentality on the field of play” he said.

Ghana are in deep trouble as they trail second-placed Sudan by five points in Group F, and still have to visit in-form Angola, who were 2024 AFCON quarter-finalists.
