Head coach of Medeama SC Ibrahim Tanko believes several of his players deserve places in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the club won the Ghana Premier League title.

Tanko guided the Yellow and Mauves to a second straight league title after an impressive campaign in which they recorded 17 wins and only five defeats, sealing the trophy with one game remaining.

Medeama’s strong season has increased calls for more local-based players to be included in the Black Stars team ahead of the World Cup.

Speaking to Nhyria FM, the former Ghana international said some of his standout players have done enough to earn national team recognition.

“I expect our players to be in the team. We have produced at least four players for the national team; Mamadu Kamaradini, Prince Owusu, Kelvin Nkrumah and Salim Adams,” Tanko said.

Tanko also praised midfielder Salim Adams, who has scored 12 goals in 28 matches this season, insisting he deserves to win the league’s Player of the Season award.

“Salim Adams deserves the Player of the Season award. If you look at the performance, every coach in Ghana can testify that there is no doubt he is outstanding,” he added.

The Medeama coach also spoke about his long relationship with the midfielder and how he has helped develop the player over the years.

“I have known him since his time in the U-17 national team. He is my relative, and I have also taken him to U-23 tournaments, so I know his abilities and when to push him to the best. We know his strength, power and pace. He listened to our advice and changed his attitude,” Tanko stated.

Medeama will finish their league campaign on Sunday with a match against Hearts of Oak.
