French-born Ghanaian defender, Alexander Djiku captained the Black Stars this mid-afternoon in their emphatic 3-1 win over Liberia in a friendly at the Ohene Gyan Stadium.
The Fenerbahce center-back was handed a starting berth and the captain armband due to the absence of the team's first four captains; Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey and Jordan Ayew.
The first half proved to be a tedious one for the Black Stars but goals from Ernest Nuamah, Kudus Mohammed and Jordan Ayew in the second half powered them to a sweet win in the capital- where they haven't played for sometime now.
Alexander Djiku with the band isn't anything new, having captained his former club RC Strasbourg on so many occasions last season.
He played only the first half and made way for Hamburger SV defender Stephan Ambrosius- who finally debuted for the Black Stars, prior to the start of the second half.
The first international break of the 2023/24 season is over and the Black Stars are expected to regroup late next month to prepare international friendlies against USA and Mexico.
