African giants Al Ahly have opted for the Al Salam Stadium as the venue to host their opening game of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League against Ghanaian champions Medeama SC later this month.
After continuing to annex their dominance in the competition having won for record 11th time, the Grand Masters definitely will hope for a perfect start this campaign and set a huge tone to showcase a strong intentions of defending the title.
However, the Mauves and Yellows definitely would also like to leave a mark as this is their first time playing in the money zone of the continent's biggest club football competition.
Medeama SC have already finalized on the Baba Yara Stadium as their home grounds for the Champions League following the rejection of the Cape Coast Stadium and the fact that their newly-built TNA Park isn't still ready yet.
The Al Salam Stadium is situated in Egypt's capital Cairo and has a capacity of 30,000 and was built in 2009 mainly to be part of the various stadia to host the U-20 FIFA World Cup- which was eventually won by Ghana- the only time an African country have won the competition.
It has since then hosted series of matches in the CAF inter-club competitions and was also part of the venues for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The game is scheduled for November 25, 2023.
