Ghana were ruthlessly thrashed 4-0 by the United States in an international friendly on Wednesday morning at the Geodis Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
Jerome Opoku made his debut as he was surprisingly handed his first start by coach Hughton in replacement of injured Joseph Aidoo, who sustained a knock in the match against Mexico on Saturday.
The English-born Turkey based defender made his debut for the senior national team, having never featured for any age group at various ranks in the England national teams.
The 25-year-old inexperience at this level showed in the match and the smartness of the Yanks tested him. Although he grew into the game his impact was limited as he looked suspect defensively.
However, despite the defeat to the United States - Opoku will look forward to making a return to the Black Stars for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.
