Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso is keeping his head high following his side’s spirited but unsuccessful battle against Bundesliga titans Borussia Dortmund at the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Brazilians succumbed to a 4-3 defeat in a high-octane encounter at the TQL Stadium in Ohio, United States, but Cardoso believes the performance showed character, potential, and growth even in defeat.
“This was a hell of an experience for the players, We grew a lot from this match. We can compete. We showed that we are on the pitch and we are not afraid.” Cardoso told reporters after the match that left fans glued to their seats.

Facing one of the world’s elite sides, Sundowns managed to put up a valiant fight, pressing high, creating chances, and refusing to roll over. Cardoso praised his players for their bravery and maturity on the big stage.
“We were brave enough and took them to the limit. I already heard that Dortmund will remember this match for a long time and that is absolutely beautiful for me,” he noted.
While the scoreline didn’t favour the South African champions, the tactical structure and fighting spirit displayed by the team impressed many people.
With the FIFA Club World Cup journey not yet over, Cardoso expects the positive energy to roll into their upcoming tie against Fluminense on Wednesday, June 25.
