The lanky defender of Cameroonian descent has put pen to paper on fresh terms with the Flingeraner, with his new deal set to take him through to 2029 at the Merkur Spiel-Arena

German-born Cameroonian defender Elias Egouli has penned a three-and-a-half-year contract extension deal with German 2. Bundesliga club Fortuna Düsseldorf, the club have confirmed.

The 23-year-old centre-back, who linked up with the reserve side of the Düsseldorf-based club in the summer of 2024, has progressed immensely to the first-team this term much to the delight of the club's hierarchy and has moved to secure his future on a long-term contract over renewal ahead of the summer window.

A portion of a statement confirming his fresh terms over an extension read: ''Elias Egouli has signed a new contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf until June 30, 2029. Egouli, who was signed for Fortuna's U23 team in the summer of 2024, only signed his first professional contract with the Red and Whites in November 2025 and has since made outstanding progress. Since matchday 15, the defender has been a regular starter for Fortuna. The 2.04-meter-tall center-back only missed the home game against SC Paderborn due to a yellow-red card suspension. ''

The Cameroon-prospect defender has told his club's official website: ''The club placed a lot of trust in me from the very beginning, and I've learned a tremendous amount over the past few months. I'm very grateful for that. Now I want to help us achieve our goal, continue to work hard, improve, and be successful with the team."

Sporting director Sven Mislintat added: ''Eli has developed very positively in his first professional season and has gradually earned his place in our team. It shouldn't be forgotten that he is still a young player with potential for further development. We are all the more pleased that he has now committed to all possible scenarios.”

Egouli has so far taken in 27 appearances for the Flingeraner across all competitions in this current 2025/26 campaign.

Given his Cameroonian heritage, the Cologne-born native remains fit to switch nationality and play for the Indomitable Lions national football team at the senior level on the international stage.
