Ghanaian football colossus, Mohammed Polo believes the Black Stars qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is a huge necessity considering the current crop of players in the team.

Ghana is pursuing to make it to the global showpiece after featuring in the last edition in Qatar. But they will face stiffer competitions from Mali and the Central African Republic this month in their quest to earn a ticket as one of the five teams to represent Africa in the mundial which will be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

According to Polo Ghana cannot afford missing out on the World Cup, he said on Akoma FM, “These players have been assigned to the Black Stars, even though I fervently hope they succeed and will fully support them, they will hear from us if they don't.

"Ghana cannot afford to be absent from the World Cup. With our disappointments in Qatar and Afcon, it's imperative to secure qualification this time around. With five slots available, it's an opportunity we must seize.

"Qualification is paramount because Ghanaian fans demand excellence, and this can only be achieved through dedication," he reckoned.

Ghana will play Mali on Thursday on June 6, at the Stade 26 Mars in Bamako, kick-off slated for 19:00 GMT, before traveling back to Kumasi for the Central African Republic game on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
