Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori has been named deputy captain at South African top-tier giants Orlando Pirates FC ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Orlando Pirates have been in search of new leaders for the playing body after the captaincy role had fell vacant following the exit of their captain Happy Jele at the end of the 2021/22 season after serving the club for 16 years.

Ofori was rewarded with vice captaincy role at the Buccaneers lads after 29-year-old defender Innocent Maela was confirmed as the club's new skipper ahead of the upcoming season.

The club's official statement reads “"Long-serving defender Innocent Maela will take up the captaincy role following the departure of Happy Jele, with goalkeeper Richard Ofori taking up the role of vice-captain,"

He made 8 appearances in the continental competition where he managed 5 clean sheets and conceded only three goals in the process.

Orlando Pirates lost on post-match penalty shootouts to Moroccan side RS Berkane in the final which was played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria.

Ofori is expected to make Ghana's final list for the 2022 FIFA World Cup
