Director of Member Associations for Africa Gelson Fernandes says Ghana has the potential to win the World Cup provided the right commitment and hard work is put in place.
The former Udinese and Manchester City midfielder who has an extensive understanding of the African game and the quality Ghana possess believes Ghana can win the World Cup if the right level of passion and work is invested in the game.
The Black Stars were few minutes away making history in South Africa in 2010 but saw their chances blown away following a defeat to Uruguay in the quarter final stage.
Ghana has since struggled to go passed the group stage in 2014 and 2022 having made a second round appearance in Germany 2006.
You have the talents, what is left is investment and hard work’’ Fernandes said at the Elective Congress of the Ghana Football Association in Tamale on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
‘’Having spoken to some of my mates like Kwadwo Asamoah, Agyemang Badu, Sulley Muntari, Stephen Appiah and co., they all believe that Ghana has the potential to win the World Cup. But we need to do more, we need to push the machine and we need to work hard to make that dream a reality’’
‘’Let’s continue to show commitment to make our football great again’’ he added.
