Former Ghana international, Laryea Kingston understands that Kwesi Appiah has a huge advantage over the Black Stars in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying clash.

The Black Stars of Ghana which is led by Otto Addo were drawn against Sudan, Angola and Niger in Group F of the AFCON draw on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

Few days after the draw there has been huge debate on the various social networks as to who will flip-bounce each other looking at the pedigree Appiah has after leading the Black Stars to the 2014 World Cup and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Appiah has so far revamped the Sudanese national team after taking the reins as head coach. The Falcons of Jediane have started their 2026 World Cup qualifiers on a good note, topping group B with 10 points from four matches.

After watching the draw, Kingston told 3Sports that:“Kwesi Appiah is a Ghanaian and he knows how we approach games. He knows a lot of positives about Ghanaians and our mindset so I think it is going to be very difficult for us. Kwesi Appiah will have an advantage as he knows us more than Otto will know the Sudanese players.

“If I am in Kwesi Appiah’s shoes now, it will be a game I will be looking forward to because there are so many things I will have to prove and show that I still have what it takes to lead this country. It is going to be one of the best games in Otto’s time at the Black Stars,” he added.

The qualifiers are slated to start off in September 2024 and end in November 2024. The top two in the group will book a spot in Morocco.
