Former Black Galaxies captain Gladson Awako has cautioned the team to brace for a tough challenge as they face Nigeria in the upcoming CHAN qualifiers.
Ghana eliminated their West African rivals in the 2022 playoffs to secure a spot in the tournament, with Awako playing a pivotal role in that triumph. However, the former captain believes repeating the feat won’t come easily this time around.
“They will not find it easy like before because, the last time, we managed to eliminate them in the same tournament, and this is Ghana versus Nigeria,” Awako told Asempa FM.
“Nigerians always feel superior—they think they are ahead of us because of their size and where they are coming from. But we always surprise them.
“I believe this group of players can achieve the same if they stay humble and listen to their coaching staff,” he added.
The Black Galaxies will host Nigeria in the first leg of the CHAN playoffs on Sunday, December 22, at the Accra Sports Stadium. The second leg is set to take place in Nigeria the following week.
