Ghana Women’s Premier League champions, Hasaacas Ladies, kicked off their 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers campaign with a gritty 0-0 draw against Omnisports Etincelle.

In their opening match of the WAFU B zonal qualifiers at the Stade de la Paix de Bouaké on Sunday, the Ghanaian side, making their second appearance in the competition, managed to hold their Burkinabe opponents to a stalemate.

The match saw Hasaacas Ladies under pressure for much of the first hour, as they struggled to break out of their own half. Omnisports Etincelle dominated possession and relentlessly pressed, forcing Hasaacas into a defensive stance.

Goalkeeper Grace Banwaa emerged as the hero for the Ghanaian team, pulling off two crucial saves in both halves to keep the game level and maintain Hasaacas’ hopes alive.

Hasaacas showed more attacking intent after the introduction of midfielder Fidous Yakubu, but despite their efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net.

While a goalless draw may not have been the ideal start, it was a marked improvement for Hasaacas Ladies compared to their last appearance in the qualifiers three years ago, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria’s Rivers Angels.

With this result, Hasaacas Ladies will now turn their attention to their next group match, where they are set to face Nigeria’s Edo Queens, aiming for a crucial victory to boost their chances of advancing in the competition.
