Former Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan says he's hopeful an African nation will win the World Cup one day, but admits he doesn't know when it will happen.

No African country has been able to progress passed the quarter finals of the World Cup.

Senegal, Cameroon and Ghana are the only countries to reach the last eight.

The World Cup will come off from 20th November to 18th December in Qatar this year.

Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon and Tunisia will represent Africa at the mundial.

The 36-year-old is Africa's record goalscorer at the World Cup finals with six goals.

Asamoah Gyan is optimistic that an African nation will win the coveted World Cup but insists that he doesn't know when it will be possible.

"We have to make sure we plan ahead, I think that is our problem. Some countries plan years – let’s say ‘in 10 years we have to win the World Cup’. So it’s a plan people take, and that’s why I’m saying it’s a process," he said

“I’m sure an African country will win it one day, but I don’t know when.

“As an African, that is my prayer, I want an African country to also win it, that is what every African is hoping for [but] it depends how the teams approach the tournament," he added.
