Ghana gaffer Otto Addo has shed light on the injury of Jerome Opoku as the team gear up for their game against Niger tonight.

The 25-year-old did not play a part in Ghana's first 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola last Thursday after picking up an injury during training at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

And now Otto Addo has admitted 'it's a pity'. When asked about the fitness of Opoku, the 45-year-old revealed he "had problems in training".

“We had some few issues and little injuries, but I think they are mostly OK. Except Jerome, I think he had serious back problems. I think his body could not adapt to the training ground in Kumasi.

“It was very difficult for him. He had problems in training and now it was so serious that he could not train. He had to go back now to get special treatment from his club. It's a pity. He didn't play but got injured."

Ghana will clash with the Ménas in their second Group F game of the continental qualifiers today (Monday), September 9, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane with kick-off slated at 16:00GMT.
