Ghanaian-born forward Kelvin Owusu Boateng scored his first goal for Uganda after switching international allegiance in their resounding 2-0 victory over DR Congo in an international friendly.
The forward found the net in the 49th minute at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, extending Uganda’s lead after James Bogere had opened the scoring account in the early stages of the game.
Bogere gave the Cranes the perfect start with the opening goal in the seventh minute, putting the Leopards under pressure.
Boateng then doubled the advantage four minutes after the restart, marking his first goal for Uganda since making the switch to represent the East African nation.
DR Congo struggled to find a response as Uganda maintained their advantage until the final whistle to claim victory in the first leg of the two-match friendly series.
The result gives the Cranes an advantage ahead of the return fixture, which is scheduled for Monday, October 5, as both sides continue their excises in the ongoing September/October international break.
