Asante Kotoko recorded an important 0-1 away victory over Burkinabé champions RC Kadiogo at the General Kerekou Stadium in Cotonou in the first leg of the CAF Champions League first preliminary round.
The home side commenced on a higher note and nearly snatched the lead but a timed tackle from Sherif Mohammed saved the situation.
Asante Kotoko dominated the game in the early stages especially with possession but finding the back of the net became extremely a tedious task for them.
The visitors glorious opportunity in the game came on the 18th minute after George Mfegue was set up by Isaac Oppong at far post with a low cross but missed the post by inches.
The Burkinabé champions from the 30th minute mark, took the game under their control and mounted so much pressure on Kotoko but also couldn't find the target.
Back from recess, the travellers returned on a blistering note which won them a free kick at a very advantageous position after Mfegue was brought down. The resulting delivery went wide.
Enoch Morrison played Steven Mukwala through with a decent ball, controlled nicely but his short went side netting.
The Hawks were given a free kick and a decent one was floated into the box in search for the opener but a great interception once again from Sheriff saved the situation.
In the dying embers of the game, Kotoko finally snatched the lead through Isaac Oppong on the 90+2 minutes. Just what Kotoko were waiting for.
It finished 0-1 for the Ghanaian champions after full time. The return leg is scheduled for September 18, 2022 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
