Nigeria are preparing to neck-it-down with Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Augustine Eguavoen's Super Eagles is probably going to be led once again by defender William Troost-Ekong, who has worn the captain band over the past year, in the absence of experienced Ahmed Musa.

Musa was named captain by former head coach Jose Peseiro but was an unused substitute throughout AFCON 2023, paving way for Troost-Ekong, the vice-captain to assume the role.

Speaking ahead of the doubleheader against Libya, the centre-back was asked about Musa's return to the Nigerian Premier League with Kano Pillars and eventual declaration that he remains available for a call-up.

“We’re happy he’s back,” Troost-Ekong said at media day in Ikot Ekpene.

“He’s still our captain and he’s welcome back any time.

“He’s our most capped player, a good role model, he’s a good leader and I am happy to deputise for him.”

Musa marked his return to the Nigerian top-flight with a goal in Kano Pillars' 2-0 win over Sunshine Stars at the weekend but it remains to be seen if the former Leicester City marksman will get a call-up for the November international matches.
