The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have announced the appointment of Finidi George as head coach following the exit of Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro in February after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Finidi, a former player of Ajax in recent weeks has served as an interim coach of the Super Eagles, and led the team to defeat Ghana and succumbed to a defeat to Mali in the last international break.

Recently, the NFF opened an application for interested coaches to apply for the vacant position, and names like Emmanuel Amuneke and Michael Nsien were said to be frontrunners for the job. But it seems the domestic football governing body has already decided who will lead the three-time African champions.

Meanwhile, in a new development per a communique from the federations Communications Department, Finidi has now been confirmed as the new permanent coach of Nigeria.
