Tanzanian club Simba Queens have officially announced veteran Ghanaian coach Yusif Basigi as their new head coach, following his departure from Hasaacas Ladies.
Basigi joins the side on a one-year contract, replacing Juma Mgunda, whose tenure ended with the expiration of his contract. He will be assisted by Mussa Mgosi in his new role.
Basigi is set to make his debut with Simba Queens in the Community Shield semi-final, scheduled to take place from September 24 to 27 at the KMC Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
A well-respected figure in Ghanaian football, Basigi has had a long and successful tenure with Hasaacas Ladies, where he started his coaching career in 2003 after obtaining his coaching badges. He initially served as head coach for the men's team before taking over the women’s team in 2013. Under his guidance, Hasaacas Ladies became a dominant force in women’s football, securing five league titles, including the inaugural Ghana Women’s Premier League in which they defeated Fabulous Ladies in the final.
Basigi also led Hasaacas to victory in the 2021 FA Cup and steered the team to win the maiden edition of the WAFU B Women's Champions League. His success continued when Hasaacas finished as runners-up in the first CAF Women’s Champions League in the 2020/21 season.
In addition to his club achievements, Basigi led Ghana’s Black Queens to a gold medal at the 2015 All-African Games as head coach. His impressive resume and vast experience are expected to bring a new level of success to Simba Queens as they prepare for the upcoming season.
