Ghana winger Kamaldeen Sulemana is set to return to second-tier football after Southampton were officially relegated from the English Premier League on Sunday, 6 April 2025, with seven matches still to play.
Sulemana featured for the full 90 minutes in the Saints’ 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, a defeat that confirmed their drop to the Championship after a dismal campaign.
Southampton have endured a torrid season, remaining rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table since early November. The club has managed just one win in their last 20 matches, sealing their early exit from the top flight.
Despite the team’s struggles, Sulemana has been one of their brighter performers, making 19 league appearances and scoring one goal this season.
The 22-year-old joined Southampton in January 2023 from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais, where he featured in 34 league games, scored five goals, and registered two assists. A product of the Right to Dream Academy, Sulemana now faces the challenge of helping Southampton rebuild in the Championship next season.
