Ghana Women’s Premier League champions Police Ladies FC began their WAFU B Champions League qualifying campaign on a losing note, falling 2-1 to Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Shakirat Moshood gave the Nigerians an early lead in the 12th minute before Emem Essien doubled the advantage shortly after the restart in the 62nd minute, tightening Bayelsa’s grip on the fierce encounter.
Police Ladies managed to reduce the deficit six minutes later, but their late stunner failed to unlock the Nigerian champions’ organised defence.
The result hands Bayelsa Queens an early advantage in the race for qualification to the CAF Women’s Champions League, underlining their reputation as one of West Africa’s strongest women’s football sides.
