The PSG legendary defensive midfielder has been relieved from his role as the head coach of the senior national team of Senegal.

The Senegalese Football Federation has officially terminated the contract of head coach Aliou Cissé after nine years.

Cissé has had his contract abrogated by the country's football governing body following the recent uninspiring performances of the Teranga Lions.

The 48-year-old tactician came under pressure when Senegal failed to defend their Africa Cup of Nations title at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, where the team suffered elimination in the round of 16.

Alou Cissé has picked up four points in 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers and came under a lot of criticism in the Senegalese media when the team was held to a 1-1 draw by Burkina Faso and a late win over Burundi courtesy of a 78th minute penalty.

However, the Senegalese Football Federation has opted not to continue their marriage with the former Cissé after growing dissatisfaction with the team's performances and results.

Kickgh.com understands that the West African nation intends to prioritize local coaches over foreign candidates in their search for a new head coach ahead of their double-header against Malawi in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers slated during the international break.

Alou Cissé was appointed by Senegal in 2015 and guided them to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2021.

He also led the Teranga Lions to two consecutive FIFA World Cup appearances—2018 in Russia and 2022 in Qatar.
