Dr. Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council, has highlighted the critical nature of Ghana's upcoming AFCON qualifier against Sudan, set for Friday, October 11, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars are yet to secure a win in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, having suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Angola and drawing 1-1 with Niger in their second group match.

Currently sitting third in Group F, Ghana needs a win to stay in contention for qualification.

“It’s a must-win game. We have to do everything we can to win that game. We know the consequences if we don’t win,” Dr. Abbey stated during an interview with Metro TV. He stressed that while the focus is on Sudan, victory in this match would shift attention to the remaining games in the qualifiers.

Dr. Abbey also expressed relief that the game will be played in Ghana, following CAF's conditional approval for the Accra Sports Stadium as the venue. However, he noted that the approval comes with certain stipulations that need to be met before the match.

“CAF has given us conditional approval to play at the Accra Sports Stadium, and they’ve indicated there are some things to be worked on before the game. We are relieved to play at home, and we are preparing to take all three points,” he added.

After facing Sudan in Accra, Ghana will travel to Libya for the reverse fixture on Monday, October 14. The Black Stars currently trail leaders Angola by five points and Sudan by two, making the upcoming matches crucial for their AFCON qualification hopes.
