Former Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed excitement over the upcoming AFCON 2027 qualifiers after Ghana and Ivory Coast were drawn in the same group.
The draw in Cairo placed Ghana and Ivory Coast in Group C alongside Gambia and Somalia, setting up one of the standout matchups of the qualifying campaign.
Speaking after the ceremony, Troost-Ekong said he is particularly looking forward to the West African rivalry between Ghana and Ivory Coast, describing the group as competitive and entertaining.
“I’m really excited now to see the draw for the qualification groups… I’m looking forward to seeing how Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana do against Gambia and Somalia. Overall, I think it’s going to be exciting,” he said.
The qualifiers will begin later in 2026, with the opening match windows scheduled for September–October and November.
The Ghana–Ivory Coast fixtures are already expected to attract major attention as both teams aim to secure early control of the group.
