South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has announced his final 25-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, blending experienced campaigners with fresh talent to ensure both continuity and future development.

Two uncapped players feature in the squad: centre-back Tylon Smith of English Championship side Queens Park Rangers, and Shandre Campbell, a winger for Club Brugge who has appeared in the UEFA Champions League this season. Both earn their first call-ups at senior international level.

Broos emphasized the importance of integrating young players ahead of the 2026 World Cup. “We have to look to the future too, and have players who will train with us and get a feel of the national team,” he said. He added that only minor adjustments are expected before next year’s World Cup.

The squad sees the return of Elias Mokwana from Saudi Arabia, while Burnley forward Lyle Foster also makes the cut. Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners is included among three players on standby. Meanwhile, Themba Zwane continues his recovery from injury, and Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi is absent from the list.

Domestic powerhouses Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns dominate the squad, with nine and five players selected respectively.

South Africa will open their Group B campaign on December 22 against Angola, before facing Egypt and Zimbabwe in the group stage.
