Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey looks set to leave Villarreal at the end of the season, with head coach Marcelino reportedly deciding not to extend his contract.

Media reports in Spain indicates that the coach has informed the clubs top hierarchy that Partey will not be retained, barring a late change of plans.

The 32-year-old has brought experience to Villarreal’s midfield, but the Yellow Submarines are looking to change the squad and bring in new midfielders.

While no official statement has been issued by either Villarreal or Partey’s representatives, the Ghana international is expected to explore options during the upcoming summer transfer window.

As vice-captain of the Black Stars, Partey’s next destination will attract a lot of attention, with interest likely from Europe and the Middle East.

For Villarreal, the club is already preparing for life after the 32-year-old, and unless there is a dramatic change of heart, Partey’s chapter at the Estadio de la Cerámica will close at the end of the season.
